In preparation for the long-awaited Shady Records’ Slaughterhouse debut, 'welcome to: OUR HOUSE', DJ Pizzo cooks something up to hold the heads over. As a resident DJ at the top nightclubs in both Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Pizzo selects many of Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9, Joell Ortiz, and Crooked I’s freestyles into one continuous, smoothly blended 'club mix.' Pizzo remastered and remixed many of the freestyles to include the songs’ original hooks, hence the title 'House Party.'

falside_easttoast_2012

Last summer Providence-based beatsmith Falside blessed us with Snare Conditioning, a beat tape so full of good vibes it had people young and old running barefoot through the streets, cracking fire hydrants and shedding clothes. A year later, and with several other projects securely under his belt, Falside marks his return with East Toast, an instrumental album that serves as another high-definition display of the young producer's ever-growing versatility. On East Toast Falside's production runs the spectrum: he shows off how purposefully he can handle samples, how intricately he develops original compositions, and how nimbly he can change gears from some complex, deep shit to the feel good shit he does so well. Falside also brought the two very talented luminary MC's Has-Lo and Ceschi along for the ride. Please share, spread, post, and enjoy!

DJ M-Rock: The Best of Tupac [Mixtape]

djmrock_thebestoftupac_2012

Here’s a tape I definitely did for his fans. I’ve put a pretty exhausting schedule on myself for the next few weeks, so this is my first tape without a signature M-Rock intro, just because time’s an issue for June. Expect a really big tribute next week, hopefully my biggest yet. Every time I make a tribute mix, I learn interesting things about the artist. I had no idea Dre and Tupac didn’t like each other. I never noticed the line in ‘To Live And Die in L.A.' where he says 'California love part 2, without gay ass Dre'. Kinda crazy actually – California Love was Dre’s track, a joint that would hopefully blow him up again after the Chronic, and Suge made sure he gave it to Tupac strictly because they were labelmates, and at that time, both signed to Death Row. Listen to the Dre-produced 'Can’t C Me'. It sounds identical to Snoop’s 'What’s My Name', or better yet, a crappy version of the snoop track – it had me thinking Dre gave him a poor effort simply out of spite. It’s weird because throughout my little life battling, DJing, I’ve had small beefs and people biting my work, but I can’t imagine what these guys were feeling. Two of the biggest artists in hip-hop history, working during a time of a silly west-east coast beef, and they didn’t even like each other. Pac sounds like he might have been really difficult to work with in the studio, but he cranked out a lot of work, with a lot of range – Enjoy 80 minutes of everything 2Pac, from his original samples, to Dave Chappelle’s skits about how Pac still lives, to his first joints with Digital Underground. Peace.

Adult Rappers (Trailer) [Video]

Please support this project at Kickstarter.

Big Fun In The Big City [Video]

Big Fun in the Big Town is about hip-hop when artistry in the game was still at its center. When skills, not hype, got you your first record deal. When Run-DMC took the reins from Doug E Fresh and Grandmaster Flash, paving the way for hundreds of other hitmakers to follow. When a chart-topping LL Cool J still lived with his Grandmother. When the Latin Quarter was the club to be at on any weekend night. And when artists from all backgrounds could taste their own pop chart dreams, just beyond their reach but still seemingly attainable.

This essential, fast-paced documentary shows hip-hop from just about every angle, and approaches its subjects with a journalistic sobriety and respect rarely given to this oft-misunderstood artform and culture, even to this day. It presents worldwide superstars and aspiring rappers, dancers and beatboxers on an even playing field, reminding us that rap was once a wide-open game for anyone with talent to grab at the brass ring of fame.

illmind_throwblaps_vol1_2012

As promised, here is the infamous ‘THROWBLAPS’ compilation. I had this idea a long time ago, but was always reluctant to put it out. I’ve got more than 3,000 beats I made over several years, on several hard drives. I knew most of them will probably never see the light of day, until now! This edition is a collection of random beats I made between the years 2000 and 2002. It was an exciting time for me because I had ZERO placements, I had JUST copped an Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard, and I was making, like, 10 beats a day. It was crazy. I was still pretty wet behind the ears, and after hearing it, you will notice the heavy J Dilla influence (R.I.P.).

14KT: Blessed [Video]

Blessed was basically all shot on a random Sunday. Andy (film director) and I just grabbed the camera and press record. Most of the video wasn't planned. As 'normal' as these things may look, many people don't get the opportunity to experience what many may consider a 'normal' life. Hence the title, Blessed.

Stik Figa: Flaudgin' [Video]

Take a spin through Topeka, Kansas with Stik Figa in his video for 'Flaudgin', a carefree joyride through the blue-collar Midwest.

Sure, Stik can get on his MC ish when need be, he can kick a thought-provoking verse when the occasion calls for it, but the Midwest rhymer is just as comfortable crafting something smooth for you to ride to. 'Flaudgin', a standout cut from his Mello Music debut 'As Himself', is just that, music for the Cuttys, Regals, Chevys and prices that represent Stik's native city. The title term is local slang for frontin' or otherwise posturing, just like the weave-equipped woman who's hair Stik calls out in the track, right after the former calls him out on his rented ride.

The straightforward and subdued video plays out like a mellow cruise through Stik's hometown. There's no million-dollar budgets here, no pyrotechnics or CGI, but Stik injects every shot with down to earth personality, making even the simplest of sceneries exude charm.

Live From The Control Room: Session Three [Video]

Quality Control Marketing and SAE San Francisco present Live from the Control Room Session Three featuring San Francisco/Fillmore's own DaVinci and Berkeley based producer Ion The Prize. Filmed by none other than Casual, the Hieroglyphics Rap God, this session and track titled 'Purple Sky' were recorded at the SAE San Francisco campus, by SAE students. SAE San Francisco is the newest campus in SAE's long legacy of training students for success in the Audio and Entertainment Industries. The top notch studio facilities are used for education purposes only and students never have to worry about losing out valuable practical time to commercial projects. The SAE staff are dedicated to the success of their students and work with them to develop their personal interests in recording, producing, mixing and mastering great music.

The video and track are the result of the 'Live from the Control Room' Beat Battle which took place late 2011 at 330 Ritch in San Francisco. Ion the Prize was one of the finalists and decided to pair up with DaVinci, who was a judge and performer. The song will be featured on the 'Live from the Control Room' EP along with the other participants including A-Plus of the legendary Souls of Mischief/Hieroglyphics crew, Lateef the Truthspeaker from Latyrx/Quannum, Vallejo's own Moe Green, and Fillmore's own DaVinci, known as one of San Francisco's most capable lyricists. The winning producers, Cache, Poetiq Beetz, Lambo Got Em' and Ion the Prize provide the backdrops and the Bay's finest hold down the rhymes. Stay tuned for Session 4, the videos (all shot by Casual) and the official release of the 'Live from the Control Room' EP coming in the upcoming months. Janelle Monae: Oh, Maker [Video]

This follows the story of a droid, Cindi Mayweather (57821), freed from the clutches of the Government by a man named Anthony Greendown, who she has fallen in love with.
Watch as we are taken into her world, running away from the Droid Control Marshall trying to capture her, disassemble her and take away her cybersoul.

Cindi Mayweather is "...not human, she is a custom synthetic; a representation of everything that worked in the past...the only thing she can't do is fall in love." Even computer codes, like law, is made to be broken.
