Blu: God Is Good: A Soundtrack To Life [Album]

Blu is like a modern-day Basquiat of music. He drops mysteriously-timed projects about what he wants, when he wants, without seemingly any care or concern for what folks expect. Although we are nmot fans of every single track he has created, we do applaud his courage as an artist - consistently treading the off-the-wall limbs that no one else will venture to.

Back in 2005, Ian Condry wrote a book entitled Hip-Hop Japan, which detailed his introduction to the culture surrounding Japanese hip-hop. Given that we have never had the opportunity to visit the Far East, his words provided great insight into a scene parrallel to our own, but also unique in so many ways. The Sound of Seoul is reminiscent of the audio descriptions noted by Condry, and although some require a re-tuning of the ear, they are advanced enough to draw any true head in to listen closer. Since this is the first DJ Soulscape project we have featured, hit us in the comments to let us know what you think.

RE:GENERATION is a feature length documentary that explores the history of music through the eyes of five modern DJ/Producers. The extremely talented DJs embark on a musical odyssey to create a cutting edge electronic track inspired by one of five traditional musical genres: Jazz, R&B, Country, Classical and Rock. In addition to Skrillex working with The Doors, the project, which is actually co-produced by the Grammys, brought in DJ Premier to produce a classical track with Nas and the Berklee School of Music Orchestra; Pretty Lights, who produced a country song with Leann Rimes and Ralph Stanley; the Crystal Method, who traveled to Detroit to record an R&B track with Martha Reeves; and Mark Ronson, who collaborated with Erykah Badu, members of the Dap Kings and Trombone Shorty for a jazz tune in New Orleans. Blu: The Greatest Guest Features Collection [Mixtape]

From RHH:

Blu has established himself as one of Hip-Hop’s most promising young emcees. With six full-length albums, and countless other projects and mixtapes, Blu has been releasing quality music non-stop since he hit the scene in 2006 — whether on his own projects, or someone else’s. Every guest verse from Blu is a quality verse, often outstanding, and his catalog of features is far more vast than most Blu fans imagine. There are some true GEMS here, and some of my favorite tracks from Mr. Barnes. I’ve gathered all of his best features into a four-disc collection.

You’ll find collaborations with: J Dilla, The Roots, Exile, Co$$, Inspectah Deck, Phonte, Freddie Gibbs, Homeboy Sandman, MED, Flying Lotus, TiRon, Asher Roth, Sene, Fashawn, Miguel, Dela, Chief, Eligh, The Grouch, The Alchemist, Kid Cudi, Talib Kweli, Evidence, Theophilus London, Jesse Boykins III, Tanya Morgan, Joell Ortiz, Andy Allo, Diamond D, Jack Spade, Lupe Fiasco, Pac Div and more.
