Swoon x NOLA [Art]

From the salvaged remains of a decrepit Creole Cottage, the Brooklyn-based artist Swoon has re-imagined a permanent, interactive sculpture for the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. We call it the Dithyrambalina. It will look like a house, but it will function like a musical instrument. A growing group of local and national sound artists are working towards interactive instruments that can be built into its walls and floorboards so that visitors can bring the house to life through their touch. Ultimately, musicians will be invited to play the house, performing orchestrated works at block parties for their friends and neighbors. This project is for the love of New Orleans - its architecture, music, culture and its people.

Swoon has designed the look of house and we have formed coalitions with everyone from architects to salvage suppliers. The next phase of our project is to create instrumentation for the house. This Fall our sound artists will publicly test their prototypes in a temporary installation we are calling The Music Box - A Shantytown Sound Laboratory.

Van Gogh Recreated [Art]

We just watched A&Es documentary on Van Gogh this past Sunday, and then lo and behold, Juxtapoz features the live re-creation of A Wheatfield Of Cypresses in London the following morning. The 3-D rendition, made up of over 8,000 plants, bends the eye like a Rorschach print, but creates the sense of calm captured by the legendary painter.

We are enamored with Jay-Z's new site, Life + Times, and it's easy to see with a series such as Originators. The first edition features none other than Lee Quinones as he works, in the studio and outside of its walls.

Aesop Rock x Dirty Ghosts: Shout It In (mp3)

Aesop Rock has remixed San Francisco's Dirty Ghosts' new single, Shout It In. Interestingly enough, as Juxtapoz pointed out in their original post of the track, the lead singer for Dirty Ghosts is none other than Aesop's wife Allyson.

The Museum Of Art & Digital Entertainment

This is a fantastic idea, and as longtime video gameaholics, we felt it extremely important to get the word out about this project. In the works is an idea for a video game museum in San Francisco, aptly named the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (MADE). It would house not only video game history and present little known facts about obscure games, but would also introduce new forms of interactive art to highlight the genius of the interactivity in console gaming. To prepare, a Kickstarter fund has been established to help raise money for initial costs.

The graff movement in LA reminds us of NY in the 80s. Although Banksy does not hail from the City of Angels, he is damn sure painting the town.

Insa In San Francisco & LA

Insa splattered his style on a wall in SF this week, shortly after leaving his mark on Los Angeles. The two SF murals (including the smaller of the two on Haight) are on top, and we have also included the LA mural down below because well, you know.

Taschen presents Basquiat

If you know us, then you already understand how high Basquiat ranks on our list of inspirations. He is easily one of the most perplexing and complex artists ever, and Taschen, who has already authored one book about Basquiat, is no doubt the best individual to create the latest about the elusive artist. Slated to hit shelves in March 2011, the project finds Taschen delving even deeper into the man and the meaning of his work.

Also, the trailer for Radiant Child, the latest film offering about Basquiat, can be viewed below.

Banksy In London (October 11, 2010)

Let's face it, Banksy is just as much an inspiration to our work as Bosch or Basquiat. We will always post his work, no matter who thinks he sold out (food for thought: so is every other musician, artist, actor, or other type of celebrity that has ever worked with the Simpsons a sellout too? Get a grip, people.)
