The Battle Between Banksy & King Robbo [Video]

In London over the past 18 months the tension between the camps has played out in a battle of spray cans between freehand graffiti writer King Robbo and his nemesis, the stencil-using street artist Banksy.

The graffiti war between the two men began in the early 90s but was re-ignited by what was widely seen as an unforgiveable transgression of strict graffiti rules by Banksy.

It was an act that pulled 80s legend King Robbo out of retirement to retaliate in the place where it all began, the streets.

The film goes behind enemy lines as the war escalates, until tragic and unforeseen circumstances bring about an unexpected ceasefire.

Banksy: Tap Phoned [Art]

art_banksy_phonetap_2011

Banksy takes the Basquiat route, incorporating an intentionally dyslexic statement into a child-like image to display the ignorance of the News Of The World debacle. Any fan had to know that he wouldn't just let this one slide by...

Banksy @ MOCA in Los Angeles (Art)

banksy_moca_losangeles_2011

Banksy graced the walls at MOCA's Art In The Streets installation, and also brought along what looks to be a steamroller crossed with some other type of machine. Nonetheless, the pieces show Banksy heading in a new direction, albeit it with the same message.

Banksy In Hollywood

banksy_hollywood_2011

The graff movement in LA reminds us of NY in the 80s. Although Banksy does not hail from the City of Angels, he is damn sure painting the town.

Banksy in Los Angeles

banksy_losangeles_labrea_012011

This is the first year in a long time that we have given more than two seconds thought to the Oscars. Not surprised, it is only fitting that Banksy would create a display leading up to the event.

Banksy In London (October 11, 2010)

banksyinlondon_10112010

Let's face it, Banksy is just as much an inspiration to our work as Bosch or Basquiat. We will always post his work, no matter who thinks he sold out (food for thought: so is every other musician, artist, actor, or other type of celebrity that has ever worked with the Simpsons a sellout too? Get a grip, people.)

Banksy in New York

banksynewyork_2010

We were lucky enough to catch at least one Banksy piece while he was in San Francisco. Although not posted, there was another piece spotted shortly thereafter in Chicago. Now it seems our friend has made it to New York. In each city, there are obvious references to doctors, which is interesting. Can't wait to see what comes next...

Exit Through The Gift Shop (Trailer)

Hands down, Banksy is one of our biggest influences. Perhaps second only to SEEN.
