Bama Love Soul & DJ Rahdu present Iconoclast: Tributes & Remakes [Mix]

DJ Rahdu – Iconoclast: Tributes & Remakes by Bama Lovesoul on Mixcloud

From DJ Rahdu:

As the month of February began I read a FB status requesting the favor of no mixes or reworks of Dilla's work this year. Discontent with the trendy and overwhelming amount of Dilla output this time of year, I could understand the intent of the statement but disagreed with the sentiment. To many, Dilla is a mark to be achieved or surpassed and recreating or remixing his work may be just the tool to help them find their own sound. Just as Dilla admired Pete Rock and probably tried his hand at flipping some of Pete's works, these producers/singers/MCs are showing their love and respect to a fallen hero. Since his passing, I've collected a large number of hours of Dilla tributes, jacks, remakes, flips, etc and here is my hour long mix of these reworks. Please enjoy!

Bama Love Soul presents Phonte: Never At A Loss For Words (The Guest Verses) [Album]

Photobucket

From Bama Love Soul:

Phonte is one of the first highly opinionated emcees to definitively capture the ear of the Hip Hop community and beyond since the days of KRS-One and Chuck D. We fell in love with his humor and wittiness on The Listening, anticipated his colorful social commentary on Gordon Gartrell Radio with DJ Brainchild and even checked for his critique of the latest films with Movies in a Minute. Yet, the North Carolinian never ceased to deliver punchlines and knockout verses with numerous collaborators over the years while simultaneously establishing himself as a singer as The Foreign Exchange reinvented their sound. Although more entertainment than edutainment, the loquacious emcee has our ears successfully on lock and we hope he's never at a loss for words.

Disclaimer: This is not a 'Phonte's most fire guest verses mix', but a mix of DJ Rahdu's favorite Phonte collaborations. Enjoy!

DJ Rahdu "The Roots Did It" (Mixtape)

djrahdu_therootsdidit

We were introduced to DJ Rahdu while combing Bama Love Soul for a copy of the Paper Route Gangstaz' Fear & Loathing In Montgomery. Although his catalog may not be as extensive as some other DJs, we appreciate the fact that he chooses wisely from a short list of key artists, most of whom have been silent (yet critical) contributors to the culture. Total Wreck: Encyclopedia of Bahamadia is STILL on our playlist, if that is any indication of his talent (not that we ever get tired of listening to Bahamadia anyway). The Roots Did It is no different - it is a comprehensive mix of Roots-produced joints and it goes! Enjoy!
