Q93 Interviews B.G. [Video]
Typically we do not highlight interviews that place emphasis on less-than-savory situations, such as the recent conviction of former Cash Money standout B.G. However, in this instance, we make an exception for a number of reasons, but primarily because we grew up in the Chopper City and we did so through his and many other artists' music. Although lauded by those who do not have a direct understanding of the day-to-day difficulties of surviving in a city like New Orleans, the lyrical impact of tracks like Uptown Thang "Wait'n On Your Picture, Retaliation, and So Much Death eclipse radio favorites like Get Your Sine On and Bling Bling and instead illustrate the ills of a city on the edge. The rise of Cash Money in the late 90s and early 00s illuminated the ingenuity of the youth in the South, thought by many elsewhere to be incapable of innovation, directly influencing millenials and indirectly educating them on how to come up. Thank you, Christopher Dorsey, for your contributions to the city and the craft, regardless of any missteps along the way.
