We are going to take a minute to revisit our roots during this holiday season and will be taking a break from posting for a few. Although we will be back prior to the New Year with new posts, new merchandise, and other upcoming projects, we would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of the artists, musicians, and other contributors that helped this year to move us one step closer to where we strive to be.

Wu-Tang x The Budos Band "The Wudos Band" (Mixtape)

Wu-Tang Clan and The Budos Band hail from Staten Island, so it's only logical that there should be a mash-up of the two. The Budos Band sound can be compared to the Mehanan Band or Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. Paired wuth wu-esque samples and classic clan verses, the end result is well-formed.

This dropped a while ago, but in revisiting the dustier areas of our catalog in preparation for our upcoming hiatus, we felt it right to post the gem. Who ever really gets tired of hearing Primo scratch anyway?

Frank Sinatra Remixed is the next in a long line of successful remix projects from Apple Juice Kid, including Miles Remixed and Louis Armstrong Remixed. Each of the three are meticulously crafted and well put together. Although, Sinatra may be the best accompaniment to the upcoming #dirtythirty festivities.

We really do not have a good excuse for not posting this sooner. You have all seen dude - Part Brown Bag Allstar and part Grendel, he's been chewing up other artists and spitting them back out on the daily for weeks now. Regardless of our lapse, take time to download this album. It should be on EVERYONE'S sick list.

Michelle Shaprow

Michelle Shaprow reached out to us a few days ago and was gracious enough to give us an opportunity to listen to her Purple Skies EP, and we are thrilled that she did! You may already be familiar with her voice (her song Ferris Wheel has been featured in an online commercial). What you may not know is that she is a graduate of Yale University, where she earned a degree in music. Also an established producer, Michelle has worked with Om Records and King Britt, among others. After hearing Purple Skies in it's entirety, our personal favorite is Windows.

After spotting and listening to the first Doug & Patty EP, we thought that the concept for this series, featuring Carlitta Durand and Vaughn Garcia, was ingenious (although we're probably partial as fans of the show). We were not aware that a second installment was in the works, but are happy to have run across it. Also features an appearance from Jabee, who just dropped his independent project, Lucky Me.. Stalley "Hercules" (Video)

About ten years ago, we used to frequent a hole-in-the-wall bar/coffee shop to catch a three-man jazz band perform (our homie was the host), with novice and seasoned poets and singer/songwriters mixed in during the set. Part Love Jones-esque Sanctuary and part Nuyorican Soul Cafe, the place packed down every Wednesday til the wee hours of the morning, and anyone who was willing to spit was provided a mic. If we close our eyes and listen to Stalley, it feels like we're there. The mellowness of his tracks melded together with the forcefullness of his lyrics are a viable match for some of the best up-and-coming and established artists. We can't wait to hear Lincoln Way Nights, coming soon.

Vikter Duplaix "For Players Only: Introducing The Music Of Vikter Duplaix" (Mixtape)

We were "introduced" the the music of Vikter Duplaix several years ago via Virgin Records in New Orleans. Duplaix always spins quality mixes of jazz, downtempo, and many other styles of music, but he excels on For Players Only by heavily incorporating the sounds of Jazzanova, which is a great match for his production prowess. Not to mention, you can never really go wrong featuring Esthero on a track.

We had a chance to hear some Fish Market 2 tracks prior to the album drop, and it was easy to tell that the second installment was solid enough to eclipse the first.
